Scientific Dialogue on Francs de Pied and the Future of the Vine

The Francs de Pied Association, represented by President Loïc Pasquet and Director Célia Calcagno, took part in the 8th International Phylloxera Symposium held at Geisenheim University.

This high-level scientific event gathered experts, researchers, and institutions from around the world to address the future of viticulture in light of climate challenges, genetic diversity, and rootstock innovation.

Among the most notable contributions, the presentation “Back to the Roots – Direct Producers as Future of Viticulture?” by Oliver Trapp and Timo Strack (Julius Kühn Institute) sparked a meaningful dialogue on the value of heritage vines and francs de pied approaches — themes at the very heart of our association’s mission.

We extend our warm thanks to the organisers for this forward-thinking symposium, and salute the growing momentum around plant material sovereignty, biodiversity, and vine resilience.
